Volunteer: AAF San Rafael Valley Fence ModificationProject Location: We will be completing a fence modification project in the south end of the San Rafael Valley on the state park, along a county-maintained road and two internal pasture fences to assist with unencumbered Pronghorn movement.
Pronghorn Benefits: This project will enhance and improve free pronghorn access in the southern portion of the San Rafael Valley on the State Park where pronghorn use and access is currently limited to several fence low spots. What to Bring: Work gloves (The AAF will have a limited supply), snacks, water, personal gear. It is recommended you bring a shade canopy as there are no trees at the campsite. Meals: Please provide your own lunches to eat in the field on the 2 workdays. The AAF will provide dinner on both Friday, and Saturday nights, continental breakfast with coffee and juice on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Volunteer: Desert Fence Busters 2025/2026 Projects ShiftsThe Desert Fence Busters members share a common goal of improving landscape connectivity to benefit wildlife. Friends of Ironwood Forest and BKW are leading the organizational effort for this event with support from the rest of the partner organizations. The Desert Fence Busters collaborative includes the following partner organizations: Arizona Game and Fish Department, Arizona Wildlife Federation, BKW, Bureau of Reclamation, City of Tucson, Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection, Friends of Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, Friends of Ironwood Forest, Mule Deer Foundation, Pima County, Saguaro National Park, and Tucson Audubon Society. Volunteers with this group will go out in the desert to remove legacy fencing and improve wildlife connectivity across the landscape! Volunteer: Whitewater Draw Camp Host
The hosts will work closely with Department staff to perform maintenance of the Whitewater Draw area including, but not limited to: removal of weeds, trash clean up, and maintenance. As part of the volunteer position the Department provides RV or travel trailer camping spots with electrical hookup, sewer and water for use by volunteers free of charge. Hosts will need to provide their own RV or travel trailer.
Camp hosts duties may include: Talk with visitors, answer basic questions (information provided by Wildlife Area Manager) about the area and Sandhill Cranes Make sure visitors are staying on trail Cleaning & resupplying restrooms Clean up & removal of trash Sweeping & mopping floors Landscaping, raking debris & gravel May have the ability to help with Wildlife Area projects based on interest and/or capabilitiesLearn more about Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area by clicking here.
