Who We Are

Founded in 1983, the Wildlife Center:

  • Provides wildlife conservation education programming throughout Arizona
  • Provides care for non-releasable animal ambassadors and confiscated native wildlife

Financial support for the Wildlife Center comes largely from Arizona’s Heritage Fund — a voter-passed initiative that uses lottery ticket sales to help support wildlife conservation and education. The Center receives additional support from public donations of money, time and supplies.

What We Do

The Arizona Game & Fish Department's Wildlife Center provides wildlife conservation education programming to our community, cares for non-releasable animal ambassadors, and supports other agency needs.

The Wildlife Center Volunteer position will assist the assigned Intern(s) with captive wildlife care of our animal ambassador collection. Duties may include, but are not limited to: feeding, cleaning, enrichment and projects around facilities and grounds. The volunteer must be comfortable working around animals and all aspects of caring for animals e.g. animal waste, preparing diets for carnivores, etc.; be a team player, possess initiative and follow directions; have ability to bend/stoop/crawl and work in extreme temperatures. Advancement in different aspects of the Wildlife Center is dependent upon Wildlife Center Coordinator approval and training. The Volunteer position will work out of the Phoenix Headquarters office and the shift typically is from either 6am - 10am or 7am - 11am, depending on time of year. Due to the nature of the position, and the training involved, we are looking for volunteers that can commit to volunteering weekly for a minimum of three months.

Interested in volunteering with the Wildlife Center? Complete and submit the online application form. Once your online application is complete, Wildlife Center staff will be notified and will contact you within a week.
