Please join us for a fence removal effort west of Tucson on Saturday, January 21st. We will meet at 8am and expect to be done by 2pm.
We'll be working on removing stretches of fence that are no longer required on City of Tucson Water Department and Pima County Flood Control District property in Avra Valley. This is important work to remove barriers to wildlife movement between the surrounding mountains. You will be helping accomplish a positive and lasting improvement to the landscape and directly benefit wildlife by increasing connectivity between protected open spaces!
PLEASE BRING: Lunch (coffee and snacks will be provided), WATER (in a refillable bottle), personal necessities. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required. Folks wearing shorts and/or open-toed shoes will not be able to participate due to the nature of the work and the landscape. We highly recommend comfortable, but sturdy boots, as well as older denim or similar pants and long-sleeve shirts that will provide protection from barbed wire spurs - there is a good chance these could get torn in the process. We also highly recommend a sunhat, sun/safety glasses, and sunscreen or other measures to avoid sunburn. If you have work gloves, bring them, but we will provide for those that do not.
WE WILL PROVIDE: Tools, snacks, coffee, water (for refilling your personal water bottle).
PLEASE NOTE:
1) This is a remote area without facilities and there will NOT be any temporary restrooms available at this event. Please plan accordingly.
2) Due to limited resources and adopted safe practices, we may need to enforce our pre-registration policy. We may turn away folks that are not registered in order to ensure capacity for those who signed-up through this website. We hope you'll understand our limitations and help us to facilitate an efficient and effective opportunity for community involvement in wildlife conservation.
