Howdy Volunteers!
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is once again seeking volunteers to assist in hiking 1,000 Gila Trout into their new forever home at Bonita Creek on October 22nd.
This will be HARD WORK! Packs will weigh between 40-50lbs, depending on the personal gear you bring. All stockings will take place in October, but it will still be warm during the day. The Bonita Creek stocking will be approximately 1.5 miles one way (~3mi round trip). This will be on a well maintained trail, with very little elevation gain, and there won't be any steep up/ down. We will meet at this location 34.377377, -111.225861 at 8:30AM.
As always, the recommendation is that you wear lightweight, dry wicking hiking pants and a lightweight, long sleeve, dry wicking shirt to protect yourself from the sun and from the brush. We also recommend hiking boots. If you don't have these available to you, running/ athletic shoes will work, as will athletic clothing that allows you to bend and stretch, but pants are still recommended. You will also need to bring plenty of water, food, sunscreen, sun glasses, a hat, and either a small day pack or small cooler.
More information will follow as we get closer to the event.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out (sgsimmons@azgfd.gov), and I hope to see you out there!
