Description

We will be working on three catchments the weekend of 3/14-15, 2026.

3/14 we will meet at the Elephant Road Trail Head about 1/2 mile from Elephant Head Road an I-19 Frontage Road at 7:00AM We will have doughnuts and a safety meeting before we caravan to the first catchment at the base of Elephant Head.   We will be rejuvenating Santa Rita Mtn #2 water catchment to increase the efficiency of catching water.  This includes removal of weeds and debris from the surface of the apron, filling cracks, preparing and applying a top protective layer to create a better surface for water collecting effectiveness.

Additionally, we will cut and/or remove vegetation from around the perimeter of the apron as well as the fence line and make repairs to the fence as needed. Lunch will be available at the catchment post project.  Following lunch, volunteers that are able to will head to the second catchment near Madera Canyon.

The second catchment of the day is Santa Rita Mtn #1, 488.  This catchment was serviced in 2023 so we will be completing follow up maintenance.  This includes cleaning and prepping the apron for a fresh top layer, as well as removal of vegetation around the apron perimeter and in the fence line as well as fence repairs as needed. This will conclude our two catchments for the day.

Some volunteers will be camping.  If you are interested in more information on this please let me know.  Dinner will be provided to the campers or anyone who wishes to go to the camp area and have dinner.

3/15 we will meet at Wilmot and Foresight Road at 8:00AM.  We will caravan to the catchment where breakfast snacks will be available.  We will have a safety meeting and then begin the maintenance service on Santa Rita Mtn #3, 468.  This will follow the same procedure as catchment 488.  Immediately following the completion of the project lunch will be available at the catchment.

If you have a car or do not want to take your vehicle off road please respond to this email or text me and we will have someone for you to ride with from the meeting points. We will provide water, fruit, snacks and lunch.  If you have special dietary requirements, please bring food for yourself.  If you are bringing a friend, please let me know so we can make sure we have enough food supplies.  If you have work gloves, please bring them, we will have some gloves available for those that do not have any. Please bring a chair to take a break in, sunscreen and wear protective clothing.

The catchment has some brush removal needs so if you have favorite yard work equipment, please bring it.  We will have tools for use as well.
