Project Location: We will be working on BLM lands approximately 6 miles south of Interstate 8, at the Vekol Valley Exit at Mile Marker 144, 25 miles west/southwest of Casa Grande, AZ.
Project Begins: Monday, November 4, 2024. Please meet at the parking/camp location not later than 10:00AM. This is a one-day project. It does not include AAF food service or camp facilities at the parking lot meeting zone. Depending on the number of volunteers work will likely be concluded not later than 4PM for your drive home.
Project Activity: We will be reconstructing a 20 acre pronghorn holding/release pen. This release pen is used annually to hold up to 20 Sonoran Pronghorn before their release a couple of months later into the surrounding desert to join previously released animals.
What to Bring: Work gloves, snacks, water, personal gear. Please provide your own lunch to eat in the field on Monday. Arizona Antelope Foundation will provide field water on the project day.
From Gila Bend: Drive 25 miles east on Interstate - 8 and exit south at the Vekol Valley Exit #144. Drive 2 miles south to the campsite located on west side of road.
From Casa Grande: South of Casa Grande on Interstate-10 take the Interstate - intersection west toward Yuma. Drive 8 miles west on I 34 - 8 and exit south at Vekol Valley Exit #144. Drive 2 miles south to the campsite located on the west side of the road.
Directions to Camp: AAF project/camp site will be on BLM lands, 2 miles south of Interstate 8 at the Vekol Valley Exit Mile Marker #144. Access to the camp site is on a maintained road. The two-mile drive to the campsite and campsite itself are
trailer friendly.
