The Arizona Game and Fish Department plans to stock 100 Gila Trout into Upper Marijilda Creek at Shannon Campground on November 10th. The plan is to stock the Gila Trout in the stretch of Marijilda Creek between Shannon Campground and a large waterfall approximately ¾ mi downstream. This will probably take until 2 or 3 pm to complete. Please meet at Shannon Campground https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coronado/recarea/?recid=25566 prior to 10:00 am as we will begin loading up fish for stocking at 10:00 am.
If you are coming from far away there are a couple options for places to stay the night before. You can camp at Shannon Campground the night before or other camp grounds on Mount Graham. There are also plenty of hotel options in Safford.
This will be hard work! While this location will not require hiking long distances, you will still need to carry a five gallon bucket full of water and fish on your back! Please dress appropriately and bring sunscreen (e.g., hiking boots, hat, sun glasses, etc.). You will need to bring your own lunch and water (I recommend a gallon of water)! We will have all of the frame packs and buckets for carrying fish. You can bring a small pack or cooler to strap on your frame pack to carry your water, snacks, lunch, or camera/phone. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!
