"Howdy Volunteers!
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is once again seeking volunteers to assist in hiking 750 Gila Trout into their new forever home at Chase Creek on October 22nd.
This will be HARD WORK! Packs will weigh between 40-50lbs, depending on the personal gear you bring. The stocking will take place in October, but it will still be warm during the day. The Chase Creek stocking will be approximately 1.5 miles one way (~3mi round trip). This will be off-trail, but with very little elevation gain, and there won't be any steep up/ down.
As always, the recommendation is that you wear lightweight, dry wicking hiking pants and a lightweight, long sleeve, dry wicking shirt to protect yourself from the sun and from the brush. We also recommend hiking boots. If you don't have these available to you, running/ athletic shoes will work, as will athletic clothing that allows you to bend and stretch, but pants are still recommended. You will also need to bring plenty of water, food, sunscreen, sun glasses, a hat, and either a small day pack or small cooler.
More information will follow as we get closer to the event.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out (ekeister@azgfd.gov), and I hope to see you out there!
