Thank you for volunteering to help us stock Gila Trout into the middle reach of KP Creek near its confluence with North Fork KP Creek. Please plan to meet at the KP Cienega Campground prior to 12:00 PM, on Tuesday, May 9th. This arrival time is subject to change and I will confirm a time by Friday May 5th. The plan is to hike all 359 Gila Trout into KP Creek near its confluence with the North Fork KP Creek and stock them (~3 mile hike one way, ~6 mile round trip). The way in with the fish is all downhill, but the hike back out is rather steepThis will probably take 5-6 hours to complete. So be prepared to potentially hike out in the dark.
If you are coming from far away and do not want to drive home that night there is the option to camp at KP Cienega Campground. There are also lodging options in Pinetop, Show Low, and Alpine.
This will be hard work! It will require hiking long distances carrying a five gallon bucket full of water and fish on your back! Please dress appropriately and bring sunscreen (e.g., hiking boots, hat, sun glasses, etc.). You will need to bring your own food and water (I recommend a gallon of water)! You will also want to bring a head lamp, in case we do not make it back to KP Cienega Campground before dark. We will have all of the frame packs and buckets for carrying fish. You can bring a small pack or cooler to strap on your frame pack to carry your water, snacks, and(or) camera/phone.
