Please join us for a fence removal effort west of Tucson on Friday, October 20th and Saturday October 21st. We will meet at 7:30 and expect to be done by 1pm each day.
We'll be working on removing stretches of fence that are no longer required on City of Tucson Water Department and Pima County Flood Control District property in the Three Points area. This is important work to remove barriers to wildlife movement through the Altar Valley/Avra Valley and between the surrounding mountains. You will be helping accomplish a positive and lasting improvement to the landscape and directly help wildlife by increasing connectivity between protected open spaces!
PLEASE BRING: Coffee mug (coffee will be provided), WATER (in a refillable bottle), and any personal necessities. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required. Folks wearing shorts and/or open-toed shoes will not be able to participate due to the nature of the work and the landscape. We highly recommend comfortable, but sturdy boots, as well as older denim or similar pants and long-sleeve shirts that will provide protection from barbed wire spurs - there is a good chance these could get torn in working with the wire. We also highly recommend a sunhat, sun/safety glasses, and sunscreen or other measures to avoid sunburn. If you have work gloves, bring them, but we will provide for those that do not.

WE WILL PROVIDE: Tools, snacks, coffee (for refilling your personal coffee mugs), water (for refilling your personal water bottle), and lunch. A port-o-potty will be availability on site.

This event is being hosted by the Desert Fence Busters collaborative that includes the following partner organizations: Arizona Game and Fish Department, Arizona Wildlife Federation, BKW, Bureau of Reclamation, City of Tucson, Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection, Friends of Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, Friends of Ironwood Forest, Mule Deer Foundation, Pima County, Saguaro National Park, and Tucson Audubon Society. The collaborative members share a common goal of improving landscape connectivity to benefit wildlife. Friends of Ironwood Forest and BKW are leading the organizational effort for this event with support from the rest of the partner organizations.
