The Native Trout and Chub program will be stocking 750 Gila Trout, from Mora National Fish Hatchery, into Chase Creek on October 17th, at 9am.
Fish will be put into 5-gallon buckets with water and oxygen, then strapped to frame packs and backpacked by staff and volunteers approximately 2 miles up the creek to the stocking location.
Buckets and frame packs will be provided. Volunteers will need to bring their own water, food, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc. Volunteers will want to wear shoes and clothes appropriate for hiking. Light weight, loose fitting pants, and either hiking boots or tennis shoes are the best options. Denim pants are not recommended, as they restrict movement, absorb too much moisture, and get very hot very quickly. Volunteers may want to bring a small backpack or small cooler to strap to the top of their buckets (straps will be provided). Please be aware that this will be HARD WORK! Packs will weigh 40-50lbs, or more depending on the personal gear you bring.
We'll be meeting at Shadow Rim Girl Scout Camp the morning of October 17th, and get started at 9am. We will likely finish up around 2 or 3pm.
