Hello Volunteers!
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking volunteers to help us hike 1,500 recovery Gila Trout into their new forever homes in KP Creek on October 24th.
This will be HARD WORK! Packs will weigh between 40-50lbs, depending on the personal gear you bring. The stocking is in October, but it will still be warm during the day. This hike will be approximately 3.5 miles one way (~7mi round trip).
It will be an on-trail hike to the stocking sites, with little elevation gain/ loss, with only a few, short, steeper stretches. But part of the trail will be exposed without cover/ shade. As always, the recommendation is that you wear lightweight, dry wicking hiking pants and a lightweight, long sleeve, dry wicking shirt to protect yourself from the sun and from the brush. We also recommend hiking boots. If you don't have these available to you, running/ athletic shoes will work, as will athletic clothing that allows you to bend and stretch, but pants are still recommended. You will also need to bring plenty of water, food, sunscreen, sun glasses, a hat, and either a small day pack or small cooler. This event may not be suitable for first time hikers, or those with physical limitations.
More information will follow as we get closer to stocking day. As always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions (ekeister@azgfd.gov).
Hope to see you out there,
Emily
